Hi

I was wondering if there was anyone on this forum who could help me.

We are seriously looking into moving to kefalonia, iv done alot of research but the only thing i am having trouble finding is more detailed information about medical.

I found that there are 2 hospitals on kefalonia and many specialist practices however my partner is a type 1 Diabetic so i am looking more into finding out about availability for his insulin and accquiring it.

I would be very garteful for any information and possibly a person i could contact on here who lives on the island either seasonal or permanant, as would like to discuss this further.

Thank you

If you are still on the board, I don't think you will have any probelms with Diabetes on Kefalonia, as many locals suffer with it!

When you decide to come out make sure you bring any medical details and take it to you local doctor together with any medications.

The main hospital is in Argostoli, although there is a smaller health-type centre in Sami. I live just outside of Skala and we are blessed with Greek GP who speaks very good English (as many will do), who is very on the ball and up to date with everything.

The pharmacies here nowadays have a very good stock of medications and even if they don't have your particular medication at the time, they will do their best to get it for you, or an equivalent.

Hope this helps. See PM

Kefalonia has two hospitals, one in Lixouri and the larger one in Argostoli, which has a full range of services, the care in both hospitals is to a high standard. Kefalonia also has a wide variety of specialist Doctors surgeries. In Greece, medical records are kept by the patient not the doctor.

At Argostoli you will find Pharmacies as well as one of the two Hospitals of the Island. The other one is at Lixouri. The General Hospital of Kefalonia is the largest Medical facility of the Prefecture of Kefalonia and Ithaca. There are several other smaller medical units throughout the islands, the Sami medical center, the Ithaca medical center and 13 Regional medical centers, that subside under this facility.

The General Hospital of Kefalonia provides medical attention and services of high standards, something that can be certified by the numerous citizens that are being treated on a daily basis. The management board of the General Hospital believes that the daily efforts for upgrading these medical services must be its basic concern and is committed to this effort.
